Why Is His Name “Pilot Inspektor”?

When Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf announced the birth of their son, people immediately reacted to the unusual choice. The first name “Pilot” was uncommon enough, but the middle name “Inspektor” made it even more surprising.
Jason Lee later explained where the name came from. According to him, the inspiration came from the indie rock band Grandaddy and their song “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot.” Jason said he loved the song and that it had a powerful effect on him.
The couple decided to use “Pilot” as their son’s first name. They then added “Inspektor” with a “k” instead of a “c,” creating the full name Pilot Inspektor.
